Why do my gardenia and camelia flowers turn brown in under a day!?

Hi my gardenia flowers sometimes are black as buds.. then open blacj... if there are white ones, they turn black in a day... and some of my other plants are becomng black stemmed and leaves are falling off... does anyone know why?!??!??! I use seasol on all my plants. The magnolia is the worst.. the black has crept all over the miniture tree and there is only about 10cm of green stalk left on it.. can i save it still!??!

It sounds like you have a sooty mould on your plants. Try spraying with white oil to kill the mould then give a good hose to wash the mould off. Gardenias are likely to turn brown very quickly if it is windy or if the flower is touched which is one downside of them but theit perfume is well worth the effort. Your camelia could be suffering the same problem and yes sooty mould does travel from one plant to the other so treat all your plants with the white oil as it is about the safest for all plants and should be sprayed at the first sign of it. Just as a matter of interest my Dad used to throw the soapy water over his gardinias many years ago and he had the most beautiful blooms I have ever seen.
Reply:You need a specialist.... if you use a garden center-- make sure you know the person's ability-- see if you can get a master Gardener, or a university or horticulture group.


As an amateur, you have some sort of blight.-- an expert will need your location and conditions. don't wait longer.
