Can I save my camelia?

I 've had this amazingly beautiful, strong plant for more than 6 years. Two years ago it started blossoming in February and went on well through May. Then it sprouted new leaves and grew quite a lot. Last year it did the same. This year it blossomed abundantly and now, suddenly, its losing all its leaves and the new twigs are withered. I have fed it regularly and kept the compost moist. What can I do?

If you can, remove some of the upper soil in a small patch down to as far as you can (6-12") and check that the soil really is moist at the depth the roots can use it. If it is in a pot even more so, but you will also be checking for white grubs (vine weevil) which can be voracious root eaters, or alternatively even root rot if it has been too wet where you are. Also the heat (specially if its potted) could have caused the wilt, but it would have to have been more extreme than in previous years. Lastly, though unlikely to be the only cause, there may be lime in the soil, which camelias cannot tolerate. But you would already be aware of this since it turns the leaves pale and very yellow. Reply:depending on where you live it might just be from the heat...scratch the bark and see if its still green...if it is give it a chance to sprout back...if not then prune it back and wait till next year....
