My camelia hasn't bloomed. What do I need to do or check?

It's been in the ground since last fall. (September) I live in zone 7 or 8. Right on the line. IT's planted on the south side of my house about a foot from the brick. Mulched with pine bark and the weed free cloth below that. No bugs noticed. Leaves aren't dark green but aren't unhealthy looking eaither.

Is it getting too much water? Too much sun? Too little nutrients? Does it need something?

My camelia hasn't bloomed. What do I need to do or check?
There are basically two types of camellias. One variety blooms in late fall to early winter and the other blooms in late winter to early spring. Hard freezes can kill the buds on the second type and you won't get any blooms.

Camellias tend to be heavy feeders. You should get some Camellia food and apply as instructed on the bag.

The soil also needs to be on the acid side.

Camellias like some sun to partial shade.

Have you pruned the branches? If you do that before they bloom, you can be removing the buds. Only prune after they have bloomed.
Reply:It may not have had time enough to get established. Young plants can take a while before they begin blooming.
